Dresser to Bench

Well, we know is has been ages since we have last made a post so here goes...

We picked up a dresser a few weeks ago and it was missing a few drawers. We saw the potential it had in it that others missed. So, we decided to make a bench!

We forgot to get a before picture of the dresser because I, Kamille, was to impatient to start the demo :)

This is a picture where you can see how the bench is going to look. We took the top off and all the drawers out. We then cut the top down to fit as the bench top (always reuse as much as you can).

We were going to put the drawer facings on the back and sides but since the dresser was missing some drawers we did not have enough. Luckily, we had some bead board we bought for a different project so we measured and cut to size. Top of the tops with some molding and we are almost done!

We gave it a nice coat of our favorite blue. Added some new hardware and topped it off with some burlap pillows.

What do you guys think? We have had some good feedback on facebook already!

This can be purchased at Timeless Furnishings, 1918 Chester Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93301

Cabinet Before and After

We came across this cabinet at a yard sale a few weeks back. The bottom panels were pretty beat up. We decided to take the wicker panels out.

And this is how it turned out...

Painted in heirloom white and the handles grey to match the fabric. Replaced the panels with this great fabric and also put it on the back of the cabinet.

Love it!

Some Before and After pictures

We have a lot of people ask us what the piece looked like before we painted it. Here are a few examples of some items we have done over the last few months.

Here is a vintage stereo cabinet. Lucky for us the stereo was already taken out of it (these are stinking heavy when the stereo is still in it). It was a great french provincial style and the cabinet doors slid open for extra storage.
We decided to paint it turquoise and rubbed some Howards dark oak paste wax over it.

Another great french provincial piece. We can never have too many french pieces in stock!
We painted the bottom part a blossom white and the top a canyon black. This piece also had matching nightstands. Distressed it to show off the great detail.

This is a basic desk you would find in the 50's. Solid! Painted it a dark brown but the hardware was not cutting it for us. Changed out the top two drawers with turquoise knobs and replaced the bottom two drawers with some simple silver pulls.

We came across this table just a few days ago and decided to just go ahead and get it. The top was a laminate that I was not to thrilled with. So we turned this table into.....
(oh, and please excuse the junk in the back)
.....This
We took the legs from the round table and some 100+ year old barn wood and made a square table. We sealed the top with Howards Feed n Wax and painted the legs a green and distressed.

What do you all think?

The tail of the missing drawer...

So, it has been a while since the last post..

The tail of the missing drawer....

We picked up this chest of drawers a while back and have been trying to figure out what we wanted to do with it. The top drawer was all messed up and missing a piece from one side.

At first we were just going to fix the drawer but today while my aunt was gone I got a bright idea... It involves a saw!!! Very dangerous!

What I decided to do was take the top off and then cut the broken drawer out to make it a 3 drawer dresser instead of 4! This was a lot easier than I had originally thought

So this is what it looks like with 3 drawers.
Next step was to sand it down and take the hardware off.

I started by painting it an espresso color and then just dry brushed on a blue.

Then dry brused a green...

It still needed something so I decided to sand it down to blend the colors in so it wasn't so noticeable.

All in all I think it came out pretty good. So good that my aunt didn't notice that it was the same dresser!
I would say that is a success!!!

Old Stereo Cabniet.. What to do???

A few days ago we came across this old stereo cabinet on Craigslist. (We love Craigslist!)

The detail is amazing and is going to look great when we finish it. The only thing is we are not sure what we want to do with it???

We have a few comments/suggestions on Facebook from fans saying to make it into a bar/beverage center. Sounds like a good idea but to cut the front off and make a door? Might be better to do something else.

Any suggestions??

This is what we have done so far...

I know, I know.. We did too much :)
