The tail of the missing drawer...

So, it has been a while since the last post..

The tail of the missing drawer....

We picked up this chest of drawers a while back and have been trying to figure out what we wanted to do with it. The top drawer was all messed up and missing a piece from one side.

At first we were just going to fix the drawer but today while my aunt was gone I got a bright idea... It involves a saw!!! Very dangerous!

What I decided to do was take the top off and then cut the broken drawer out to make it a 3 drawer dresser instead of 4! This was a lot easier than I had originally thought

So this is what it looks like with 3 drawers.
Next step was to sand it down and take the hardware off.

I started by painting it an espresso color and then just dry brushed on a blue.

Then dry brused a green...

It still needed something so I decided to sand it down to blend the colors in so it wasn't so noticeable.

All in all I think it came out pretty good. So good that my aunt didn't notice that it was the same dresser!
I would say that is a success!!!

Old Stereo Cabniet.. What to do???

A few days ago we came across this old stereo cabinet on Craigslist. (We love Craigslist!)

The detail is amazing and is going to look great when we finish it. The only thing is we are not sure what we want to do with it???

We have a few comments/suggestions on Facebook from fans saying to make it into a bar/beverage center. Sounds like a good idea but to cut the front off and make a door? Might be better to do something else.

Any suggestions??

This is what we have done so far...

I know, I know.. We did too much :)

Brown and Turquoise Dresser

This is a story about an old dresser that needed a little TLC. As you can see from the picture below it needs some help. A few drawers needed some work done to them and the colors and writing had to go!

I started by taking all the drawers out to make it easier to sand and paint. You can leave the drawers in but if you do decide to take them out I would mark them with a number on the drawers and in the dresser (where it will not be visible) so the drawers fit perfect! I used a 150 grit sand paper and lightly sanded.

We wanted to try something different with this dresser so I had some leftover paint that I used in my house. For the base we used a dark brown paint from Sherman Williams. When painting with the base coat make sure you get a good coverage.

Once the base coat is dry you can start having fun! For the top coat we decided to go with a turquoise color (also left over from house paint). For this step all you need to do is put a little paint on your brush and lightly brush it on. You want the brown to show through.

Here is a view from the side…

Your not done yet!!! We spray painted the knobs a metallic silver. All the knobs were in great shape but the color did not match. Well, spray paint helped with that and they look like brand new knobs.

We also decided to line the drawers with fun contact paper to give it a clean look.

All in all we think it turned out great!

We are selling this piece for $149.. If interested in purchasing please visit www.chicstaginganddesign.com

french provincial style dresser

French Provincial Dresser

First, we love coming across these french provincial style dressers. They are well-built and look great in just about any color.

We came across six different styles in a matter of three days and we were super excited! This is my favorite piece because it needed the most work. As you can see the drawers are all different and there is one lonely handle. Luckily, the owner had another set of handles that he had never put on…

So, we started but lightly sanding it down and changing the handles. Once that was done we wiped it down with a wet rag and waited for it to dry.

Once dry we started the painting process.

We Like to use American Accents Canyon Black Satin Paint and we also used a paint sprayer on this piece.

Below is a picture of the dresser after we finished spraying it… It was nice and black but it still needed something

It needed a little distressing.. What a difference! We love it! For distressing we used a sanding block and went around the edges. Once the distressing was finished we put a finishing wax on for a nice smooth finish!

We worked on all six pieces in one day and I must say my arm was killing me! But well worth it!

Enjoy!

Bookcase Before and After

Bookcase Before and After

This was a bookcase that we picked up at a yard sale. It was green with a bunch of strawberries all over. We sanded it down really good so the berries wouldn’t show through.

Once sanded we started painting. We decided to do something a little different and use turquoise/aqua color. Once it was painted and dried we lightly sanded for a smooth finish.

Well, it wasn’t finished yet so we rubbed a dark glaze over the bookcase to give it an antiqued look.

Here is the finished product.

Old Stereo Cabinet turned new

This was once an old stereo cabinet that was pretty, well, ugly. We picked this up from Craigslist when we went to get a china hutch..

The start of something good! Took all the stereo equipment out (this was a project since there were a lot of wires and screws)

The fabric on this was very, very dirty! make sure to wear a mask!

This is the blank canvas! Now time for paint. Decided to go black, go figure…

The finished product! What a transformation…

Just took a little time but well worth it!!!
